Nazca, Peru September 2012

Left Paracas on a 35 Sole bus at 11:00 am and arrived at Nazca at 2:30 pm. Found Nazca Trails hotel and got a room up a set of rough stairs without a stair rail for 37 Soles. Enquired about a flight over the Lines and paid USD100 for a flight tomorrow. Had poor chicken dinner for 17 Soles.
Like the majority of Peru, the small town of Nazca is very arid. The small 8 seater plane turned and banked continually so passengers on both sides got a view of each petroglyph.
The images are hard to see against the surrounding countryside and difficult to catch on a photograph.
Random lines criss-cross the desert floor in no apparent pattern. One can see why some believe in the theory of alien landing strips.
For most visitors, the experience of flying in a small single engine plane and the swooping and turning would be a more memorable experience than the glimpses of the mysterious petroglyphs.
