Short 77 kilometre run from Gap to Briancon in the French alps and the Hotel de Paris where I got a 49 Euro third floor room with the balcony views as below
Lets hope the trains don't run all night.
Stripped all the baggage off the bike and set off with aims to summit Alpe Huez and the Col de Galabier.
All that snow meant that the Col de Galabier was closed so Alpe Huez was the destination.
Road wound through and along river gorges with some dark scary tunnels. The trick was to follow the tail lights in front and take the curves conservatively.
Eventually started the climb
Each of the 21 hairpins is numbered and it must be a real killer on a push cycle.
Got to the top where there were innumerable condos, chalets, tourists shops, cafes etc. Came down satisfied with having ticked off another target destination. Back to Briancon to rest up for Italy tomorrow.
