Ceret is a town inland from Perpignan not far from the border with Spain. Picasso lived here for two years and the town has a fine Diablo bridge
Stopped the first night in the municipal camping ground on a sloping gravel pitch for 9 Euros then moved to hotel Cascades right in the middle of town
Ceret streets have beautiful tall plane trees.
This is one of the sites painted by Picasso
The centre of the old town is pedestrianised and ancient city gates survive
With numerous sidewalk cafes
Asked the guy at this restaurant where a good 4-5 hour ride would be and he recommended a loop over the Col de Ares to Figuros in Spain and back. There was snow on the distant mountaintops.
Very pretty views along the way
Found a school excursion walking group near the summit who could take my picture
Got completely lost on the motorway system in Spain, eventually got some directions in a small shop where the shopkeeper was kind enough to telephone her husband for directions. In the back of her shop you could fill your own bottle from a choice of wine casks.
